What Is the Typical Temperament of a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel?

The Typical Temperament of a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel has a very affectionate temperament and responds well to gentle, consistent obedience training. Looking for Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppies for sale will bring you in contact with brave little dogs who are always eager to please you.

Because they are naturally well-behaved and get along well with both canine and non-canine animals, the only caution (which applies to all dogs) is to not allow them to believe they are the leader of their pack. Should they develop what's commonly called “small dog syndrome," you will find that your Cavalier King Charles Spaniel believes that he/she is the commander of the humans in the household. This often leads to behavior issues better left unobserved.

They love humans, but you should be cautious with small children so your puppy does not confuse their actions with aggression. In fact, their companion temperament is so strong, they should seldom be left alone all day. Combined with the fact that they have high energy levels – they are descended from larger hunting dogs – they tend to get lonely rather quickly, missing their human companions. This can sometimes lead to restlessness, unhappiness, and behavior problems that display their separation anxiety.

Besides missing you terribly, the temperament of a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel makes them a well-behaved, fearless, and loving family pet and companion. At 18 pounds or less, they are a perfect size for even a smaller home or apartment. Just remember, they are active and love long walks.
