What Are Some Boston Terrier Traits I Should Know?

Some Boston Terrier Traits You Should Know

Boston Terriers are interesting dogs, starting with the fact that they are not really terriers. Actually bred in Boston, they originally were much larger and, as much as we may frown on this, formerly well-known fighting dogs. In the late 1800s, they were “bred down” from around 40 pounds to their current smaller size (17 to 25 pounds).

Don't be fooled by their small size, however. When you search for Boston Terrier puppies for sale, you are still considering tough, athletic dogs. They need both mental and physical exercise to prevent them from becoming bored and possibly getting cranky. Highly intelligent, Boston Terriers are typically easy to train, but don't be shy about asserting your authority. They respond well to a quiet, but firm hand. You can't afford to have your Boston Terrier believe he is the pack leader, as he/she will happily take over your household.

Boston Terriers are usually great with children and extremely friendly to older people and most strangers. They may not be the best watchdogs, but their gentle temperament makes them great family pets and potentially wonderful therapy dogs. Their short-haired coat requires little grooming time and their gregarious personality requires only your love and attention to shine through.
