September 4, 2009, Newsletter Issue #62: Dachshund Puppies for Sale

Tip of the Week

If you like mischief packaged in a long body with short legs and big, brown eyes, then you may want to start looking for Dachshund puppies for sale. While most people probably picture a smooth coated brown dog when they think of the Dachshund, these dogs come in different colors and have long, smooth, or wire haired coats. You can also choose to buy a mini or regular sized Dachshund.

Be sure you find out if the litter you are looking at has a family history of back problems. With their long backs and short legs, these dogs have a tendency to develop issues with their spines. While it is considered to be a hereditary problem, you can lessen the risk of spinal injuries by not overfeeding your Doxie and making sure no one drops it or carries it in a way that places strain on the spine. Other problems to ask about are bad knees, eye problems and epilepsy. Some Doxie colors are more prone to eye problems, including blindness, than others. Think about your lifestyle. Doxies are active, energetic little dogs and were bred to hunt. If you are a couch potato or work long hours, your dog may find ways to entertain itself that will not meet with your approval.
